Branch Activities

For many years Wantz branch of the SPBW met regularly at the
Britannia in Barking but with most of the
members of the branch now living or working in London, the branch currently meets at the
Pembury Tavern, 90 Amhurst Road, Hackney on the third
Monday of each month.
Wantz branch meet regularly for social events, not only involving pubs and real
ale but also visits to breweries, to restaurants and days out to towns and
cities. Branch meals have included tapas at the superb
Navarro's restaurant in
Charlotte St, W1, Thai meals at the Time-Out recommended
Singburi Thai,593 High Rd. E11,
Italian food at Ciao
Bella in Lamb's Conduit Street, WC1N 3LZ, an evening of Schnitzel Madness
(to say nothing of Mass/Krugs of bier and Dirndl clad waitresses ) at the
Bavarian
Beerhouse in City
Road, Turkish delight's at
Tas 72 Borough High Street, SE1 1XF (although, disappointingly the Pide
had just been discontinued at that branch) and in
Whitechapel, Punjabi and Bangladeshi cuisine. Although we do, of
course, regularly visit pubs throughout the London area (see our
Pubs page) we also have had evenings tasting German and
Belgian beers and one foreign beer themed evening stroll around bars between
Holborn and Clerkenwell taking in Polish, Russian, Estonian, Czech, German,
Belgian and Austrian beers. At the end of 2004 we visited London's museum
of wine and viticulture, Vinopolis
and 2004 also saw the branch's first international trip, to Brussels. |
